My academic work develops from a long engagement with visual communication, sacred art, symbolic form, and the question of presence in the image.
It is concerned especially with how images carry meaning, how that meaning changes through reproduction, and how a spiritual or symbolic reading of visual culture may still be possible.
Research Direction
My current research brings together Walter Benjamin’s concept of aura, the history of image reproduction, sacred and symbolic art, and the role of memory in visual culture.
The work asks how the sacred image can be read after mechanical and digital reproduction, and whether the loss of aura can also open another kind of encounter with the image.
Current Project
The present research is organised around the recovery, transformation, and reinterpretation of aura in modern visual culture.
It moves between academic study and close readings of selected works of sacred and symbolic art.
